Despondency reigns on the town square. Unhappy townspeople wander sadly around the square, waiting for the end of the ritual of Chun-ki-hsin, traditionally preceding the 7-day holiday on the occasion of the wedding of the mandarin's daughter, during which citizens are forbidden to indulge in any kind of fun. The ritual begins with a wedding ceremony and continues until the morning, when a gunshot is being reported to the woman of the townspeople about girl becoming a woman. However, this time the residents are waiting for the shot for the fifth morning already...
